SICE improves the users’ travel experience in Metro Line 6 in Santiago de Chile

SICE METRO L6

Last November, Chilean President Michelle Bachelet opened Santiago de Chile Metro’s Line 6. Outstanding figures, such as the Minister of Transport Paola Tapia, the Minister of Public Works Alberto Undurraga, the Metropolitan Mayor Claudio Orrego and Metro’s President Rodrigo Azócar, were present at the event, as well as the mayors of the municipalities through with the new line runs.

SICE has implemented within this project a modern comprehensive communication and security solution on Metro Line 6 in Santiago de Chile, allowing more than 65 million passengers to plan their journeys, to know their travel times, destinations, interesting places, contingencies, etc., all in real time. The system gathers all the relevant information to passengers, monitoring all the facilities through an extensive CCTV network and connecting to Metro’s traffic and incident management systems. The solution is completed with interactive machines in every station presenting intermodal information where passengers can search destinations an interesting services.

SICE’s information and passenger communication technology allows ten new stations (spread over 15km.) to offer timely and real-time information through large digital screens and PA messages in every station. Those screens offer different information such as destination or waiting times. Also, the fact that every wagon shows its capacity makes easier passengers distribution over platforms and trains. Stations also have intercoms to communicate with the control center when an incident arises or in order to meet information needs.

Another new feature included in this system is the information delivery to passenger once on-board: the system uses an innovative wireless communication network train-ground with high-capacity, transmitting information to the train and coordinating information on screens with audio on loudspeakers.

The information is displayed in an attractive format to simplify understanding allowing the addition of different information sources through easily settable carrousels for Metro operators. These carrousels allow to include as many operational or emergency messages as recorded advertisements and announcements.

SICE is currently working to implement this solution on the future Line 3 in Santiago. Thus, the company strengthens the technological leadership of the company in the Chilean urban transport industry. This differential solution endowed with great added value is included within SICE's solutions and is already implemented in other projects in Spain, Colombia, Algeria and Saudi Arabia.
