Installation of microcells for the Telefónica network in Benidorm
SICE has installed the latest microcell technology for Movistar’s network in Benidorm. Sixteen microcells have been installed in all, featuring Alcatel Lucent technology.
This technology provides 4G coverage with speeds of up to 150Mbps (downloading) and 50 Mbps (uploading), with each microcell covering an area of 5 km, in sectors where data-traffic density is particularly high, such as the town’s beaches in summer.
SICE thus begins its relationship as a strategic partner of Alcatel Lucent in Spain, with technology that within five years is expected to handle 30% of the data traffic in major urban areas. It is already in use in several cities including Amsterdam.
